Moving towards a future...

Updated: Aug 30, 2020

The end of last year and the beginning of this year has been a tough one. I had a really hard time finding a job, I was scammed, lied to by someone who I thought could have been a romantic partner, and there was this world-wide virus. But, I made the decision to turn things around so I could have a future that I could be proud of.

On March 30th, I began working on a 9 month UX/UI bootcamp through Springboard. It was perfect for this transition. It provided design experience, a mentor, a career coach, and job placement. I am now 2 months in and the design tool that I am using is Sketch. It has been challenging but I am getting it, slowly. The UX (research) part has been fairly simple for me due to my research background through my doctorate. Working on this program has given me purpose as I work towards a future plan.

As a result of working on my elevator pitch, I realized my purpose and passion. I have been a caregiver for 8 years for my father with Lyme disease. I attended a webinar that was sponsored by Alive Ventures, a startup that focuses for design on the elderly. The webinar featured Don Norman, an 85 year old designer who emphasized aging in place. This webinar inspired me to follow this path and look at organizations that are working on assessable design for the elderly. I have been able to locate a few by Googling and also reached out to others in the healthcare/recruiting spheres.
